RE: WNTB 22/9/10 and into the winter?

The fast group plugged away until we ended with about 7 in the group with birdy soloing to victory in the end.

not sure how long our session was - maybe one of the garmin users couls put up thier data?

One or two 'interesting' moments on the gravelly corners for some. Not much we can do about that except making sure warning calls keep coming along the chain.

I noted that on the flat we were typically at 23-24 mph and that the acceleration out of the corners were where the gaps appeared - perhaps we could do a skill session at stourport on technique for that sort of thing?

As one of the 'newbies' over this past few weeks, a big thank you to Tony for organising the sessions! Great to meet some new people and to be challenged in a way that training on your own can not do! Maybe one day, with some more miles in my legs, I might just hold on to the fast group - doubt it some how! Thanks again!

Big turn out for this weeks WNTB,I counted over 20?
lots of new faces as well.
This week we started off and after riding to the circuit we got straight into the
chaingang.Pace was fast, too fast for a few of us! so inevitably a second group was formed, totalling 5. I am sure there were others that dropped off the lead group but
they either kept on at there own pace or went home.
So our little group did a team time trial formation and quite enjoyed ourselves at our medium pace.
If anyone would like to report on the fast groups ride that would be good.
From talking to a few that expressed an interest I think after the stourport ride in two weeks,we will turn it into a midweek ride / social, and see how that goes.
Any Ideas for routes about 30 mile long would be appreciated.

i think a sat ride with some structure to it as we have been doing would aid everybody. including those who are new and intrested in starting to race. as we have seen there are many rides leaving at diffrent times and  i think it would be good for the club to have more purpose to some of the group rides. i think this shows in the success that has been started with the wntb.

Yes I was going to mention its usually Birdie and Rob on the saturday.
The problem for me with the present winter runs is that the one starting at 7 is quite simply to early in the morning!
The later one includes a cafe break and ends up that I dont get home untill 2.30 in the afternoon. Thats why I was suggesting it.Personlly I do a lot of mountain biking in the winter,as to be honest its a lot more fun than riding on wet miserable cold roads!
So it would be only the odd sunday that I would be looking for an alternative, and then regually from about the start of february to get the miles in for the racing season.

I'll be there tomorrow.
Regarding further sunday organised ride. Not sure if members or non members are aware of the current organised rides that i think cover most abilities.  There are normally two groups that go out on a sunday; first group sets off from city bridge at 07:00 - normally on a reasonably fast pace (average 20 to 21mph) for 50 miles or so non stop, have a good selection of routes so you won't get bored and you will def be back for your second breakfast.
There is also a group that goes out at 09:30 as listed on the home page of web site.

I'm not saying that there isn't room for another group but maybe there is the opportunity to have it on a different day rather than sunday to enable a broader window of opportunity to go out for a ride for more people.

Just my thoughts

See you guys tommorrow

Hi,
this weeks (22/9/10) bash will be on the wadborourgh circuit,we really need to be away for 18.45 because of failing light,so try to get there by 18.40 meeting at st Peters garden centre.
We are going to start needing decent front lights now.
Next weeks circuit will be at broadheath but I will have to bring the start time down to 18.30.the following week we will be back at the stourport cycle track again starting at 18.30
We have been invited to go over to the track every Wednesday if we wish.Personally I would rather get a couple more road rides in before the light completely fails.I also think that may be going over every week would make the experience a little stale.

This leads me on to thinking about whether we carry on through the winter.I know a few of you have expressed a preference to do so,as would I purely for the social side.
I think that after the next stourport session we should change the format of the bash into a ride, really because it is far too dangerous to be flying around at those sort of speeds in the dark let alone rain and ice.
I would suggest a ride of approx 2 hours as that's about the length of time batteries last in a decent front light! With trying to hit an average of 18mph,so reasonably fast.
We would be looking at say a circuitous route of 30-40 miles with hills in.
On every third week why not go over to the track?
I would also like to propose that we meet on the main city bridge a la the Sunday run.
In the wet weather or damp roads mudguards would have to be compulsory.
So that's my take on it,please post with your Ideas and interest and maybe we can slap something into shape?
