6 hours 20 minutes or thereabouts.. that was a tough ride and the furthest I have been for ages due to not wanting to wreck my legs for tt ing which is what I did a few years running by doing audaxes all the time in the summer....
It was difficult knowing how many layers to wear because of the dodgy weather, in the end mostly ended up damp anyway either with rain or sweat from having the jacket on for too long. The tights came off at the first drinks stop. Speaking of which my guts are still complaining from the excess energy drinks, gels and bars they were generously giving out. The filling of the drinks barrels with water and powder was rather haphazard and some of the drinks were a bit concerntrated [syrup]....
Good ride though, felt it last night in the low gear race,,,,, my crown was snatched from my head and no mistake..
Anyone doing tonights Sevale tt at Severn Stoke? the weather should be perfect for some good times.
The fact that I enjoyed it is testament to the fact that I didn't quite fly round. Nevertheless, it was a good challenge and I'd commend it to others for future editions - hopefully with better weather, I think we had the full range during the day, from lightening, through hail, torrential rain and finally to warm sunshine.
NB If you do it next year, remember to turn left out of Lydney, both Tom and I failed to do so and added an extra 12% hill and couple of miles in to the 8,000 feet of climbing just to top off the day! Sam will note it's not only on time trials that I go off course....
