RE: Turbo training 2013

A reminder that there is no turbo training this Tuesday 6th Nov due to graduation at the Uni (however I expect you all to get a good session in at home!) Normal service resumed next week.

I am pleased to confirm that a dozen riders have signed up so far, so we will be running throughout the off-season.

Contact me at m.corbett@worc.ac.uk to join the fun!

The first block will be from 23rd October to 18th December. This is 8 sessions (the lab is unavailable 6th November due to graduation) and will cost £20.
The second block will run from 8th January to 26th March, 12 sessions costing £30 if paid before end of November.

Payment can be made at the first session by cash or cheque (payable to Worcester St Johns CC), or you can send to me at the address below. (any profits will be re-invested into some additional cooling fans, training videos etc. with group consensus).

A few people have asked about the parking, it is £1 for evenings. We can store limited numbers of turbos at the MPC, so there is scope for riding to/from sessions if youre nearby.

Autumn/winter 2012?
Please contact me if you are interested in an earlier 10 week block running Oct-Dec which can run if there are sufficient numbers.

More information:
Turbo training is a great way of keeping legs turning and lungs working over the winter months whilst improving technique, endurance, strength and lactate tolerance before the start of the race season. Sessions will run in a progressive programme through until Spring 13. Since you ride at your own pace, its easy to accommodate riders of all ages and abilities. No one is left behind!

Sessions last 60 - 75 minutes and typically comprise of a 15 minute warmup, some drills and technique work, two main sets of specific efforts and a cool-down. We will also do a Sufferfest video on a couple of nights.
We will follow a programme building speed endurance
The MPC lab is a roomy, air-conditioned hall perfect for this sort of training. Showers are available in the nearby sports hall.
Attendees are advised to use the small car park between MPC and the astro-turf pitch. Bikes and kit can be unloaded and brought in through the large firedoors at the rear of the building. Note that there is now a charge for parking at the University.

There are several turbo trainers available to borrow. Please contact me to book.

Suggested kit list:

Bike - in reasonably clean condition
    Turbo trainer
    Riser block for front wheel
    Fan to keep cool
    Shorts, shoes, top
    Drinks bottle (water available)
Heart rate monitor (extremely useful but not essential)
A couple of towels to catch sweat one for you, one to cover the bike

I recommend a turbo-specific rear tyre if possible it will grip better and save tearing up a soft road tyre.
