Dave def need to chat to Sam he has a list of all courses suggested. And reasons for and against each. Also don't ingore the possibilty of 2 lap courses. One concern that Sam has is the number times we use the same area. Both on Police and resident feelings.
That sound good too, where would the finish be and any idea how close to 25 miles it would be?
To me, the most important factor about whatever course we come up with is that it is exactly 25 miles. If it's short then it may as well be another 19.5. If it's long nobody will care about the time they do anyway.
Some time in the next week or two I will try to get out and ride the suggested Kinnersley course and clock the distance on my gps.
I'm all for a club 25 again. The person to talk to first is our club timetrial secretary - Sam. I'm sure he'll read your idea Dave and let us know his thoughts.
The course sounds good although i think the tongue in cheek statement of a more relaxed 25! - norton 10 circuit plus severn stoke bank - I think the course is def a challenge and if we can make it work maybe my legs will have a go./ Although the thought of a tt at the moment sends strange go to sleep feelings in my legs - just getting over the mass over eating from christmas and think the trial of interval training would do me in at the moment. Thankfully we have a bit of time to get our bodies working again.
Dave, there is a Committee meeting scheduled for 24 January I think, it might be an opportunity for you to come along and present the case and deal with any questions etc. It would be great to have a "25" on the club calendar if we can make it work.
Hi all, I am keen to get a 25 on the club calendar and I have come up with a proposed course. A description of the course is as follows.
1) Meet and sign on as for the Ketch 19.5 mile tt in the viewpoint near the Ketch island.
2) To get to the start, ride along the A38 towards Kempsey. Ride past the pubs in Kempsey and come to a bus stop on the left hand side of the road, opposite the Lawns nursing home. The start would be the exit to the bus stop.
3) Ride along the A38 towards Baynhall garage. At Baynhall garage turn left onto the Norton 10 course.
4) Continue as if doing the Norton 10, turn left over the motorway bridge.
5) Continue as if doing the Norton 10 course, at what would be the finish to the Norton 10 course continue riding going over the motorway bridge.
6) At the end of the road, 0.20 miles after the finishing point for the Norton 10 course, turn left. Continue until the road meets the A38 in Kempsey.
7) At the junction with the A38, turn left and continue all the way to the M50 island. Incidentally , the half way point is at the top of severn stoke bank, maybe we could have a seperate competition for the fastest rider for the first or second half of the course. I would suggest that this competition is only open to those who finish outside the top 5 overall, giving the slower riders the chance of winning something.
8) At the island go all the way round and return to Kempsey on the A38.
9) My favoured finishing point sees you ride past the starting point for a further 0.5 mile and you finish next to a telegraph pole numbered dp12. This gives you a gps recorded 25.0 miles.
Plus points to this course.
1) All, except 0.2 of a mile of the roads that it uses are already used in our club tt's. The only new bit of road is after the finish to the Norton 10 course, where you continue for 0.2 of a mile before turning left to head towards Kempsey.
2) The signing on and parking point is already used for club tt's.
3) The start and finish areas have plenty of space. The pavement at the finish is very wide.
4) The biggest plus point is that it is a 25 mile tt and is bang on, 100% accurate 25 miles long. A 25 is something that is sorely missing from our clubs tt diary. It will give club members the opportunity to do a 25 mile tt without having to travel miles to do an open event. Open 25 mile events are also a little bit daunting for newcomers to enter as the standard is more often than not very high and people fear they will not do well and look to be slow. By having a more relaxed club 25 course riders will get the opportunity to record a 25 mile time which will be something to look back on for years to come.
If getting the right numbers of marshals for this course proves difficult I am more than happy to marshal and I am sure others would be to, our club needs a 25 mile course and our tt diary needs freshening up. I could ride most of the courses in my sleep I have done them that many times. Riders need new challenges and a 25 course gives people the chance to set a new personal best.
As this course is fairly long for an evening tt I would suggest it is used only in the height of summer when we have plenty of daylight. Maybe it could replace one of the 19.5 mile tt's?
The course is not going to produce mega fast times but on the right day I can think of 8 or 10 regular club members who would get very close to going under the hour for this course.
Lets get it on the fixtures for next year, before riders start to look to other clubs who already have good 25 mile courses locally..
