RE: evening training

I would echo Ed.

Timetrials can be hard as you are racing against yourself as much as the next rider. but if you cannot finish a 10 in a less than 26 min. (no aero gear) then i would expect to dropped pretty quick in Road race. (i always was), the good thing about TT's is regardless of what you ride as you gain fitness you will see the improvement.club

If group racing is what you are after the Friday evening Track league (May-Sept) will give you the experience. It is shorter as well so if you are starting out or don't have the time for long miles then you can still be competitive by changing the training. (500m to 10 miles). You can be competitive (win and score points)with 6-9 hrs per week training. The club has bikes for loan and I have a spare Track bike (52cm ST/54cm Top) if you want to have go.

Other training if you will travel.
If you want to ride at pace then Wolverhampton Wheelers run geared training group on the track. see their web site.

Halesowen run a thursday training session on their track (opposite Sandvik J3 M5)once it gets lighter. See Doug Pinkerton.

I would say many club members initially can give good advice before getting a coach especially those who have raced etc.. I have learnt loads from team members in my few years with the club.

I would ask at a club run or ask more specifics on this forum.

My tip in trying to develop race fitness would be to try and mirror that pace but over shorter intervals but you may need a good stamina base first. One can also use races for experience to get race fit. Ride Sunday club runs to get used to riding in groups if trying to gain more experience in that area.

You really need to get a coach to train & learn to race properly. Clun members could point you in the right direction on who to contact.

is the club going to do any mid week evening rides this year not just time trials. also those who are intrested in racing but have never raced is there any training groups for them to learn how to race and develope race fitness?
