RE: Becoming TT Racer.

Good to know other people ride TT with fixed gear. Think I will go for that.

Im a university student at the moment so busy over next month with a pile of coursework but will hopefully have my bike completed by end of May so I will start coming to the TT's/Track in June.  Noticed theres a broadheath TT in June which is where I do my training circuit at the moment.

I think I would like sore thumb racing in my MTB. Its about as aerodynamic as a vending machine with low gears that I would have to spin like mad to keep up.

Cheers for advice

Hi Cal, if you want to speak to a good coach John Callaghan would be a place to start. Any member should be able to give you his contact number/address.

Hi... Fixed bikes are pretty good to time trial on, I do a few of the club tt's on a basic fixed bike with some clip on aero bars, and some on a fairly flash tt bike. The difference in times is not that great, in fact tonight I have gone faster on fixed than I did on the same course a couple of weeks ago on my tt bike...

If you do end up going fixed some of the club tt's count for a fixed gear league, it would be nice to have some competition for this as tonight I was the only one on fixed! Details of the events that count are on the events link off the home page.

If you turn up on a mtb that's fine too. I started out doing the club tt's on an old GT Tequesta fitted with 1" slicks.

Anyway, glad to hear that you are going to give tt's a try...

oh... and as for fixed gearing for tt's, I tend to go for about 50/15 so maybe start with that and go up or down a bit depending how it feels for you..

Dave.

Cal,
Most ride multi-gear TT bikes, especially on hilly circuits, but there are a few purists who ride fixed. If you're used to fixed try it out. The best thing is to have a go and see what suits you - come along on your MTB and ride, you won't be the first to do it and you probably won't be the slowest either!

On the track you have to use a fixed track bike, that means drop bars only, no brakes, no quick release wheels allowed. Again come along one Friday eveneing to see what it's all about

I am getting into TT, coming from XC Mtb. Im interesting in racing for your club once I get my bike built up. But I have some things I need helped with first since I don't know much about TTing. I am interested in 5, 10 TTs and possibly track.

Do people mainly race fixed gear ? I think id rather do this to save money instead of buying drivetrain equipment.  If not what is popular gear setup to use ?

Are there any rules about using TT bikes on the halesowen track league ?
