First day I rode 90% of the first 20 miles, then from 20 - 30 miles had to push for about 50% of the time. The last 20 odd miles were 90% on the bike. The second day was ridable apart from most of Hartside pass were I pushed for about 3 miles on the way up. Coming down was ok as the gradient wasn't as bad on this side. Apart from the odd hill after this 90% was ridable. The last day started with a long push out of Stanhope, about 3 miles, then 95% ridable to the finish. I think the end to end should be ok, looking at september 2008 I think...
Well done old chap, brilliant photo's. But honestly what percentage of the time were you actually riding as opposed to pushing, pulling? Hope it was good training for end to end.
Weather was fine, no rain all weekend. It was a little misty at Hartside but as I was going so slowly when riding down again I wasn't cold. The whole ride went without major incident, in fact it went so well I am now seriously thinking about doing end to end on the penny next year.....
Glad you like the photos,l I'm glad to say that Hartside cafe was open! Going up the pass was a slow process and coming down the other side wasn't that much easier. In fact the whole ride was pretty hard. Still, at least I didn't have any punctures!
I've just riden (and pushed) my penny farthing from coast to coast, from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. If anyone wants to look at some of the photos see, http://www.flickr.com/photos/10804338@N06/ cheers, I'm off to lie down now, for a very long time.....
