Thank you I have not seen this photo. I will take photos of medals and email to you. He did live in Pinvin. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to look for the records. Pauline
I've just had a quick look in the archives:- 17th June 1936 E.Griffen was the number three man in the St Johns team that lost to Cheltenham in a 25 mile time trial . he did 1 hour 6 minutes and 23 seconds. The next year he was St Johns fastest rider with 1 h 4 m 38 s, he also won the club 50 mile race in 1937 and led club rides - his seem always to be titled 'Suprise rides' He was club champion in 1937 and 1938 and set club records for 10, 20, 25 miles all in 1938 when his membership shows him living at 2 North Road Pinvin. Nice photo of him with bike and trophies I'll see if we have any more. I'd live some high resolution photos of the medals. Please email me mstaines @ btopenworld.com
Dad died a little while ago - He would have been 90 years old last week. I am sure he talked about Bill Greig. Dad was allso known as Slim Griffin. He moved away from the Worcester area at the start of the war but kept up his membership for quite a few years. His Family sent all the newspaper cuttings etc. about the club for many years and he maintained an interest in news about the club untill he died. I am glad you liked the pictures I was not sure anyone would be interested after all this time. I will read your interview I wish Dad was hear to share it.
Hi Pauline It was nice to see the pictures of your dad. Is he still alive? I ask only because I think I know of at least two other members from that time and they may like to get together. Bill Greig (grassy) and Roy Lewis both still live in the Worcester area and I have met them both recently. If you look on our web site you will see an interview I did with Roy about two years ago - he was club champion the year after your Dad. Rick Allen
Is there a way of posting the infomation on the mesage board? I have never posted a message before. I have Dads members card some race programes newspaper cuttings and photos etc. He loved racing and the club.
I've got the club archives and photos dating back to 1890's. I'd be interested to see your medals and photos and maybe we've some more photos of your father? Contact me mstaines @ btopenworld.com
My Dad belonged to St Johns in the 1930s. I have newspaper articles including a picture of the presentation of the championship cup to my Dad at the Jubilee Dinner in November 1938. He was very proud of his time with St Johns. I have medals from this time too. I thought members might be interested.
